FASTING RAMADAN
The Messenger of Allah said:
“إنَّا أُمَّةً أمّيَّةً لا نكتب ولا نَحْسب، الشهرُ هكذا وهكذا”
Narrated by Bukhaariyy and Muslim
From this saying, we understand that we do not rely on calculations for determining the beginning of the month.
The month is either twenty-nine or thirty days.
Although at the time of the Prophet there were astronomers among the Arabs, the Messenger of Allah did not make the rule dependent on their calculations, He left the matter to what is easy in the Religion, which is to rely on seeing the crescent to start and end the fasting.
However, if the clouds prevent them from seeing the crescent, He prescribed for them to complete Sha^baan thirty days.
