English:

The scholar Shaykh Muhammad ‘Isa ‘Ubayd al-Misri (d. 1383 AH), in his book Dalail al-Tanzih wa Ibtal ‘Aqidat al-Tajsim wa al-Tashbih (Proofs of Divine Transcendence and Refutation of the Belief in Anthropomorphism and Likeness), commented on the condition of the leader of the anthropomorphists, Ibn Taymiyyah. He said:

“That Harranian is Abu al-‘Abbas Ahmad ibn ‘Abd al-Halim, known as Ibn Taymiyyah, who died in 728 AH. He devoted himself to advocating for the creed of the Hashawiyyah (a sect accused of anthropomorphism), outwardly claiming to reconcile reason and revelation according to his understanding of the books, without a wise teacher to warn him of the pitfalls.”

“And far be it from sound reason and authentic revelation to defend the illusions of the anthropomorphists.

How many people, ignorant of the fundamentals of religion, have been deceived and ensnared by their traps!

How could there ever exist a clear, authentic text or a sound, rational proof to establish attributes such as spatial direction, movement, or place for the One who is unlike anything in existence?

He also says about Ibn Taymiyyah:

“Indeed, he is the imam of the anthropomorphists, the leader of the corporealists, and the exemplar for those who follow the ambiguous aspects of the revelation.”
