A statement that those who liken Allah to His creation have tarnished the Hanbali school of thought

“All praise is due to Allah, and may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon the Messenger of Allah.”

“Furthermore, Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal said: ‘Whoever says: Allah is a body unlike other bodies, has committed disbelief.’ This was mentioned by Badr al-Din al-Zarkashi in [Tashnif al-Masami’]. There is no doubt among the scholars of Ahl al-Sunnah wa al-Jama’ah regarding the innocence of Imam Ahmad, may Allah be pleased with him, from those who anthropomorphize or liken Allah to His creation, even if some of them claim to follow his school of thought.”

“And Ibn al-Jawzi al-Hanbali said in [Daf’ Shubah al-Tashbih][دفع شُبَه التَّشبيه] : ‘I have seen some of our companions speak about the Aakida in a manner that is not appropriate, so they authored books with which they tarnished the [Hanbali] school of thought and attributed to Allah a face additional to His Self, two eyes, a mouth, cheeks, molars, lights, two hands, fingers, a palm, a thumb, a chest, a thigh, two legs, and two feet,’ he concluded in summary.”

“The consensus of Ahl al-Sunnah wa al-Jama’ah is that anyone who knowingly attributes a body to Allah, meaning something composite and constituted, has committed disbelief; because anyone who understands the meaning and attributes it to Allah has indeed asserted that Allah’s self is divisible, which is blasphemous! Therefore, there is a consensus on their disbelief. Ibn al-Jawzi said in [Daf’ Shubah al-Tashbih] : ‘And whoever mentions the divisibility of the self has disbelieved by consensus.’ He concluded.”
