Preserving one’s Faith in Islam
يجب على كل مسلم حِفظُ إسلامه
It’s an obligation upon each accountable Muslim to preserve his faith in Islam and protect it from apostasy (riddah).
Apostasy is for one to commit what makes him become a non-Muslim after having been a Muslim.
Apostasy is of three categories and one should avoid them all.
If the person apostatized by any of the three categories, he/she has to immediately return to Islam by uttering the Testification of Faith (Shahaadah).
The three categories are:
*Apostate Belief*
such as: likening Allah to the creation by attributing body parts to Him, or attributing shape, size, place, or direction to Him, or any other attribute of the creation.
*Apostate Action*
such as: throwing the book of Qur’aan in the trash or to write the Verses of Qur’aan with something نجس najas/filth, or to prostrate to an idol
*Apostate Saying*
such as: cussing Allah or the Messenger or cussing any Prophet or any Angel such as Jibreel or ^Azraa’eel, or to mock the religion of Islam or to mock any of the actions of the honorable Prophet.
*Attention*: Helping another person commit kufr is kufr.
